Your Tuscan Home Away From Home

Caseverdi Villa San Lorenzo is a Tuscan dream. The Villa is situated a short distance from the charming hilltop town of Castiglione del Lago and Lake Trasimeno. Combined, the two Villas contain 10 bedrooms/11 bathrooms on 10 acres of private land filled with trails, fruit trees, event spaces, a spacious pool and views that rival any Italian postcard. The peaceful, park-like property, which sits between Florence and Rome, is within walking distance (or less than a mile drive) to the small town of Gioiella, home to a bar, market, hair salon, church, and other amenities. Three miles further afield is the legendary lakeside town of Castiglione del Lago, full of folklore, colorful streets, outdoor activities, a museum, shopping, gastronomic specialties and a majestic fortress. Lounging at the Villa is also an option for milestone birthdays, wellness or cooking/art retreats, or intimate weddings. Alternatively, create your own ideal stay that can include private chefs, cooking classes and wine tasting, relaxing at the private pool (open in season), hike down paths through fields of walnut, apple, plum, pomegranate and fig trees (feel free to pick what you can eat), enjoy a private cooking class with the villa’s fresh picked herbs or just gaze at the golden hours at the peaceful and panoramic views. Villa San Lorenzo is the perfect location for a private family gathering, destination wedding, corporate retreat or bucket list getaway with friends.

Location

The Villa is situated between Rome and Florence, and easily accessible from either airport. The desirable location on the border of Umbria and Tuscany is adjacent to charming small towns, markets, and restaurants and is an ideal home base to visit some of Italy’s most prominent destinations. It’s less than a hour’s drive to many of the regions most famous and historical towns; Montelpucliano, Cortona, Montalcino, Bagni di Vignnoni, Pienza (within 30 minutes); Siena, Assisi, Perugia, Orvieto, Arezzo, Deruta and Spello (within an hour) are all easy day trips. While train service in Italy is easy and reliable and it’s possible to take a train to the surrounding area near the villa from most major airports, you will likely want to rent a car in the countryside to visit neighboring towns, or we can arrange for a private car or driver. There is ample free parking on the property for several cars.

Room to grow

Attached to the Villa is Piccola Villa San Lorenzo, a charming two-story independent Villa with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, its own entrance, full cook’s kitchen, laundry, living and dining rooms with views, as well as a private patio that can be reserved for larger groups or events, (not included for groups of 16 or less). Piccola can be configured to connect or act independently.

Inside the Villa, bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms are spacious and grand with high ceilings fresh air, and views of the lush countryside, hillside villages or lake, as well as comfortable beds clothed in the finest 100% Italian cotton linens. Natural light infuses every room with that magic Italian glow. The VSL commercial kitchen is well-stocked for talented chefs and the local ingredients are generally organic and of the highest quality. There are multiple comfortable dining areas both indoors and outdoors. In addition, the Villa San Lorenzo herb garden is lively and tended with available ingredients just outside the kitchen door to enhance your cooking, or that of the private meals of a local chef. You can always find some version of basil, rosemary, chives, sage, oregano, dill, thyme, mint, parsley bay leaves and/or lavender as well as a variety of citrus trees.

While “la dolce far niente” is an option (the sweetness of doing nothing) as you lounge in the double hammock under the shade of two ancient giant oak trees, there are endless outdoor activities and nearby amenities. It’s a gastronomical paradise for olive oil, charcuterie, wheat, chocolate, and perhaps most importantly for some, the red wine varieties that the region is famous for. Private chefs are available to curate meals or you can book in house pasta and cooking classes, and local tasting rooms offer feasts at world-famous restaurants or the staff can curate a private wine tasting at the Villa. Perhaps a couples massage by the pool is your cup of tea, which is also an option.

Our staff can arrange wine or olive oil tastings, meals, golf outings at the nearby Tenuta Lamborghini — an estate offering degustazione menus of food with wine pairings and a golf club — boating on Lake Trasimeno, or a variety of other activities. Our team is kind and cares about your group’s enjoyment and stay and has been known to gift eggs from their own chickens or olive oil from their personal production, even making extra jam for our guests.

The Villa is a haven from the stress of everyday life, an opportunity to commune with nature, lounge by the pool, or reconnect with family and friends. If active vacations are your style, venture out and cycle, run, fish or picnic at the lake. Romantic sunrises and sunsets will also beg you to stay on property. Whatever you are looking for, Villa San Lorenzo puts La Dolce Vita at your fingertips.

Caseverdi hopes you notice all of the small details that make the Villa unique. From the antiques to the professionally curated décor, the Villa was decorated to be someone’s elegant private home, not just a rental. The art, the kitchen equipment, the linens and the organic bathroom amenities are all of the finest quality.

The 8-bedroom Villa San Lorenzo houses up to 16 guests comfortably (18 with 2 rollaway beds). The attached 2 bedroom house is available to larger parties who pay for the use of both properties, which can be separate and contained and sleep an additional 6 guests, including a fold-out sofa, for a total of 24 guests maximum.

Please note, the property is on 10 acres, and Italy (like much of the world) has been in the middle of a drought. But even when it’s not, Caseverdi is mindful of using clean, organic products on the property, and we hope you will be mindful of the natural resources and expensive utilities. Water is precious in this region for growing crops, as is electricity, gas and heat. Thank you for your contribution to our endeavor to be responsible travelers and touch lightly upon the land and our desire for consciousness about the planet.
